About this event
Calling all Mums, Dads, Grandmas, Grandads, Aunts, Uncles, Carers and Guardians! This course is a fantastic opportunity to spend some quality time with your children, having fun while learning some essential digital skills. On this course you will learn how to create some basic multimedia content using the Scratch programme to design animations and an interactive game. Each week will include time to work with your child on a fun coding project. The content of this course will vary depending on the year group of the children. Learn about e-safety and other coding skills to use at home. |
There are five main areas that we will cover during this course.
Session 1. Introduction to Scratch
You will create an account on scratch and learn about Sprites. Work in Scratch to change background and direction of your sprite characters.
Session 2. Loops
You will work with your child on changing the colour of you sprites using loops and add dialogue.
Session 3. Create Chatbot
You will be introduced to the computational thinking concepts of events and conditions. you will work with child to create different chatbot using the same 10 blocks
Session 4. Debugging
You will develop a list of strategies for debugging projects and work with your child to investigate the problem and find a solution by testing and debugging projects.
Session 5. Create a game
Identify 2 common game mechanics and work with your child to create a game
You will also look back at what you have learned and think about what you may like to do next!!
Who is this course for?
This course is aimed towards people who want to learn how to use Scratch Programming Language
A basic level of conversational and written English is needed to complete this course. You must also have a basic level of computer skills

Course Times: 10am-12pm
Course Duration: 2hrs every Saturday for 5 weeks

Venue Information
This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.
