What is this course about?
This Functional Skills Level Level 2 course is delivered online and will enable you to progress onto further or higher education and is the standard that most employers look for.
The course is split into 2 parts:
- Part 1 – will prepare you to study a Functional Skills qualification course. In this time your teacher will also assess you, to see if you are ready for a qualification course. At the end of part 1 you will either progress on to part 2 or you will stay on part 1 for a little longer.
- Part 2- Will give you the skills to use maths effectively in three areas, number, handling data and measure, shape and space (MSS).
You will be taught by a qualified teacher guiding you through the course. Your course will be taught once a week over 2.5 hrs. Your course will be taught on Wednesday evenings 18:00 – 20:30.
Who is this course for?
For people who want to gain a recognised qualification in Maths to allow them to progress to further study or education.
Entry Requirements to do this course:
You will be asked to undertake a BKSB test online to determine your level. Please also tell us on enquiry whether you have already gained a qualification in Maths. We regret we are unable to take anyone who has gained a GCSE C grade (level 4 or above) or a Functional Skills Level 2 in maths.
How you will be assessed?
The three parts of the course should give you the skills to use maths effectively in all three elements, number, handling data and measure, shape and space (MSS).
The course is taught online and face-to-face. You will need to come into a testing centre, in an area as close as possible to where you live in Hertfordshire, to complete your exams.
The final exam is split into two papers – a non-calculator and a calculator paper.
How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?
This is a recognised qualification course and as such you will be asked to work at least 1 ½- 2 hours outside of the lesson each week. You will also be offered separate revision sessions outside of your course which we encourage you to take up.
- This course does require commitment and may not be for you if you are not able to commit up to 7/8 hours a week.
After this course you might like to… progress onto further/higher education or employment.

Please note there are are no classes on 25th October 2023, 27th December 2023, 3rd January 2024, 21st February 2024, 3rd April 2024, 10th April 2024, and 29th May 2024.

Venue Information
This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.

This course is fully funded by The Education & Skills Funding Agency for adults who meet the following criteria:
- Aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2023.
- UK National and lived in UK for the last 3 years or EEA National with settled/pre-settled status and lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years.
- Do not hold this Functional Skills qualification, GCSE C grade or Level 4
Learners should also be a Hertfordshire resident.
