Target Audience:
All staff, volunteers, family carers, direct employers and their PA’s
Aim:
To provide staff with an understanding of UTI’s and enable participants to confidently spot the signs and symptoms of this infection. This session is delivered by a registered Nurse facilitator with first hand clinical experience.
Learning Outcomes:
- What is a UTI, how this type of infection presents itself and what it does to the body
- Rapid identification techniques
- Risks and other associated medical conditions
- Holistic Prevention – what other factors impact this infection such as dehydration and hygiene
- Psychological considerations
- Treatments and Medications
- Practical demonstration workshops of testing strips and result evaluation
- UTI’s in patients with a urinary catheter and methods of testing
- Escalation processes and specialised services, e.g. red flags for referral to urology
- Case Study discussions including examples from practice
