What is this workshop about?
This workshop is for year parents of children in year 5. Year 4 parents can also come to get some information. The workshop aims to inform parents about the 11+, the terminology and concepts involved, and how to support their children's well-being and anxiety during this period.
The workshop will cover the following topics:
- What is the 11+ and how does it work
- What are some key terms and concepts that your children need to know?
- How is maths taught in schools?
- How can you help your children revise effectively? We will offer some practical tips and strategies for revision, such as Pyramid strategy, finding online resources, etc. It will also suggest some ways to make revision fun and engaging, such as using games, quizzes, songs, etc.
- How can you support your children's well-being and anxiety during the 11+ This session will address some of the common worries and challenges that your children may face during the tests, such as stress, pressure, fear of failure, etc. It will also advise you on how to help your children cope with these emotions, such as by providing encouragement, praise, reassurance, etc. It will also recommend some activities and techniques to promote relaxation, such as breathing exercises, mindfulness, etc.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is aimed for Parents and carers of children working at Key stage 2 level in regions where the 11 + exam is administered.
Entry Requirements to do this workshop:
Some level of conversational and written English.
How you will be assessed?
Through questions and answers, discussion and completion of learner reflection form.
After this workshop you might like to… attend other workshops, such as ‘supporting your child with KS2 SATs’, or ‘supporting children with maths’.
What learners need to supply
Learners you must have access to PC or Tablet.

Online live streamed - Google Classroom
Venue Information
This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.

This workshop is fully funded by the Department of Education for Education for adults who meet the following criteria:
- Aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2024.
- A Hertfordshire resident.
- A UK National and lived in the UK for the last 3 years or EEA National with settled/pre-settled status and lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years.
- Do not hold a Maths GCSE qualification.
