    Teacher: This workshop is being taught by Beverley.

    What is this workshop about?

    How to help to reduce household fuel costs by creating an eco-friendly Draught excluder, using repurposed fabric stuffed with old unwanted towels, bedding, or clothing, for blocking a gap under a door or for a draughty windowsill.

    You will learn how to:

    • Create a customised Draught excluder.
    • Interpret maths terminology used in the project instructions.
    • Calculate the length for the door/ window area required.
    • Identify and measure your preferred circumference (thickness).
    • Upcycle old household fabric items.
    • Use the basic functions on a domestic sewing machine.
    • Practice Straight stitching using the sewing machine.
    • Finishing hand stitches.

    Who is this workshop for?

    Beginners to machine sewing.

    Entry Requirements to do this workshop:

    A basic level of conversational and written English is needed to complete this course. 

    How you will be assessed?

    Through questions and answers, the completion of learner reflection form.

    Material supplied by Step2Skills

    Machine and fabric available by request at booking stage.

    What learners need to bring/supply

    Learners may choose to bring their own machine, outer fabric preference, old unwanted fabric items for filling the excluder cover.

    You will be asked to complete an enrolment form at the start of the course. Please bring along one form of ID to facilitate this.

    After this workshop you might like to… attend Introduction to Multiplication and Division or an extended Step2Skills Beginner Sewing course.

    NOTE: This workshop is for Hertfordshire Residents Only - *This workshop is fully funded by The Education & Skills Funding Agency for adults who meet a set criteria - please see further details under the 'Further Information' heading.

    This workshop is fully funded by the Department of Education for Education for adults who meet the following criteria:

    • Aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2024.
    • A Hertfordshire resident.
    • A UK National and lived in the UK for the last 3 years or EEA National with settled/pre-settled status and lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years.
    • Do not hold a Maths GCSE qualification.
