    What is this Course about?

    The purpose of this qualification is to equip learners with the skills needed to support colleagues with mental health difficulties. Learners will develop these skills by expanding their knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions, the principles of mental health first aid, and how to apply these effectively in the workplace.

    The course is divided into three sections

    Section 1 -Exploring mental health -which aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the different types of mental ill health and the contributors to mental ill health.

    Section 2- Understanding how to support individuals with mental ill health - Signs and indicators will be explored and you will look at how you can support individuals with mental health issues and those facing mental health crisis. Perceptions and attitudes to mental health will also be studied and how mental health impacts on others around the induvial.

    Section 3 – Understanding a mentally healthy environment- A mentally healthy environment will be promoted, and you will consider ways to support your own mental health

    Who is this Course for?

    This qualification is intended for learners who want to increase awareness of mental health, foster a culture of care, and promote positive mental wellbeing. This qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop an understanding of mental health, the related principles of care and how this can be applied to support learners or colleagues in the workplace. 

    Entry Requirements to do this Course:

    There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. A good level of conversational and written English is needed to complete this course.

    To be fully funded:

    • Learners must be aged 19 or over and a resident in Hertfordshire.
    • Either, unemployed* and claiming benefits or earning under the National Living Wage - £25,000 per year.
    • Or, do not have a full Level 2 qualification or above (this excludes maths and English). Other L2 exclusions may apply.

    How you will be assessed?

    You will complete a portfolio of evidence for the 3 units. Assessment will also take place during the classes. 

    How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?

    2-3 hours per week outside of the live classes will be required to meet assessment deadlines. 

    What learners need to bring/supply

    As the course is online, you will need a PC or laptop with good wifi and a webcam or built-in camera. (A mobile device or tablet/ipad alone will not suffice) 

    Additional Information

    This qualification requires a level of commitment, as deadlines for assessment submissions must be met on time, to achieve the qualification.

    This course starts on Tuesday 13th January 2026 and finishes on Tuesday 24th March 2026, please note there is no live class on Tuesday 24th February, Tuesday 17th March and Tuesday 24th March.

    Online live streamed - Google Classroom

    Venue Information

    This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.

    Except for the registration fee, this course is fully funded by The Department for Education Adult Skills Fund, for adults who meet the following criteria:

    • A Hertfordshire Resident
    • Aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2025
    • A UK national or anyone with a lawful immigration status in the UK. You will not be eligible if you are in the UK under any of the following conditions:
      • On a student visa
      • On a sponsorship visa
      • On a visa or residence permit that restricts or prohibits study
      • In the UK on holiday (with or without a visa)

    To be fully funded you will also need to be either unemployed and claiming benefits or working and earning below £25,750
