What is this Course about?
This L1 qualification develops writing and social media marketing skills through strengthening creative, content and promotional writing skills needed on a digital platform. The course includes learning about principles and features of written content and selecting impactful photos. Topics include learning about digital marketing principles, how to use social media to connect with an audience; digital advertising content and adverts; selecting impactful digital images. The course draws on a variety of stimuli, including drawing from leaners’ own experiences, to reinforce learning and skills development.
Who is this Course for?
Those wishing to improve their knowledge and understanding of social media marketing and writing skills; those who may be planning to launch their own business or product such as freelancers or self-employed individuals; those developing skills in a marketing role that want to start writing content and plan to market a product on social media.
Entry Requirements to do this Course:
Learners will be expected to have a good level of English written and spoken skills.
Learners must have basic digital skills to be able to complete and upload work.
Learners must make time outside of the course to complete homework tasks.
To be fully funded:
- Learners must be aged 19 or over and a resident in Hertfordshire.
- Either, unemployed and claiming benefits or earning under the £25,000 gross per year

How you will be assessed?
This is a portfolio-based course where learners build up a folder of evidence to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding to pass the qualification. Assessments vary from week to week but include written answers, questions and answers, quizzes and self-reflection.
How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?
Homework tasks will be set every week, so learners should set aside on average 1-2 hours depending on the task, to complete it.
What learners need to bring/supply
Learners must have a laptop or tablet with a working camera to access Google Classroom and reliable wifi.

Online live streamed - Google Classroom
Venue Information
This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.

Except for the registration fee, this course is fully funded by The Department for Education Adult Skills Fund, for adults who meet the following criteria:
- A Hertfordshire Resident
- Aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2025
- A UK national or anyone with a lawful immigration status in the UK. You will not be eligible if you are in the UK under any of the following conditions:
- On a student visa
- On a sponsorship visa
- On a visa or residence permit that restricts or prohibits study
- In the UK on holiday (with or without a visa)
To be fully funded you will also need to be either unemployed and claiming benefits or working and earning below £25,750
