Are you interested in becoming a teaching assistant, midday supervisor or volunteering in a school?
This introductory course tells you everything you need to know about working in primary schools. You will learn about the school structure and expectations, safeguarding, behaviour management strategies, current methods and ways of teaching including phonics. You will also be given guidance on applying for jobs in schools, where to find vacancies and how to ‘sell’ yourself on an application form.
This is a fantastic way to get a head start in this career
The course content may include:
- The Early Years Foundation Stage and Primary Curriculum.
- Statutory assessments in primary school.
- Behaviour management
- Safeguarding and Prevent
- Phonics, reading and writing
- Maths: vocabulary and calculation methods
- How to find jobs in schools and effective ways of applying.
Who is this course suitable for ?
This course is aimed towards people wanting to work in a primary school as a classroom helper, teaching assistant, learning support assistant, midday supervisor or volunteer.
A good level of conversational and written English is needed to complete this course.
Note: course content may change slightly dependent on background, knowledge and previous experience of learners.

Dates: Starts Thursday 8th June 2023
Times: 10am-12pm (all sessions)
Duration: 2hrs per week for 5 weeks.

NOTE: This course is for Hertfordshire Residents Only - With the exception of the registration fee, this course is fully funded by The Education & Skills Funding Agency for adults who meet a set *criteria - please refer to the 'Further Information' tab.
