What is this Course about?
Find out more about working in the health and social care industry in the UK in this introductory course. Look at the way that the industry is structured and broken up into the 4 sectors: statutory, voluntary, informal and private. Explore the variety of job roles on offer ranging from care work to social work and the associated skills needed with a particular focus on the importance of body language and communication skills.
Who is this Course for?
This course is aimed towards anyone who may be interested in working in health and social care, but does not know where to start or which section of the industry would be suitable.
Entry Requirements to do this Course:
A good level of conversational and written English is needed to complete this course.
How you will be assessed?
Weekly learner reflections, observation and Q&A
How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?
Minimal except for carrying out independent research on potential career opportunities within the sector.
What learners need to bring/supply
- A PC or laptop to take part in class and complete activities and assignments (a mobile device alone will not be sufficient).
- Internet Access.

Online live streamed - Google Classroom
Venue Information
This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.

Except for the registration fee, this course/workshop is fully funded by The Department for Education Adult Skills Fund, for adults who meet the following criteria:
- A Hertfordshire Resident
- Aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2025
- A UK national or anyone with a lawful immigration status in the UK. You will not be eligible if you are in the UK under any of the following conditions:
- On a student visa
- On a sponsorship visa
- On a visa or residence permit that restricts or prohibits study
- In the UK on holiday (with or without a visa)
