We regret we are unable to take anyone who has gained a GCSE C grade (level 4 or above) or a Functional Skills L2 in maths.

    Course Code: 25089

Teacher: This course is being taught by Sophie.

    What is this course about?

This Functional Skills Level 1/Level 2 course is delivered face to face.

Level 1 is the first step to gaining qualifications which will enable you progress on to higher education or further your job prospects. Level 2 will enable you to progress onto further or higher education and is the standard that most employers look for.

The course is split into 2 parts:

Preparing to study Functional Skills maths– will prepare you to study a Functional Skills qualification course. In this time your teacher will also assess you, to see if you are ready for a qualification course. At the end of this course, you will either progress on to the accredited course or you will stay on a tailored learning course for a little longer.

Functional Skills Level 1/Level 2 will give you the skills to use maths effectively in three areas, number, handling data and measure, shape and space (MSS).

You will be taught by a qualified teacher guiding you through the course.  Your course will be taught once a week over 2.5 hrs on Tuesday afternoons 12noon - 2.30pm.

    Who is this course for?

For people who want to gain a recognised qualification in maths to allow them to progress to further study, education, or career progression.

Entry Requirements to do this course:

You will be asked to undertake a BKSB test online to determine your level.  Please also tells us on enquiry whether you have already gained a qualification in maths.  We regret we are unable to take anyone who has gained a GCSE C grade (level 4 or above) or a Functional Skills L2 in maths.

    How you will be assessed?

The three components of the course should give you the skills to use maths effectively in all three elements, number, handling data and measure, shape and space (MSS).

The course is taught online and or face-to-face. You will need to come into a testing centre, in an area as close as possible to where you live in Hertfordshire, to complete your exams.

The final exam is split into two papers – a non-calculator and a calculator paper.

How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?

This is a recognised qualification course and as such you will be asked to work at least 2 hours outside of the lesson each week. You will also be offered separate revision sessions outside of your course which we encourage you to take up.

    • This course does require commitment and may not be for you if you are not able to commit up to 7/8 hours a week.
