What is this course about?
This Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 2 course is delivered face to face.
This course will give you the tools and strategies to update numeracy skills including: numbers, calculations, money, time, temperature, positional vocabulary, 2D&3D shapes, length, weight, capacity, representing information, charts and tables.
The course is split into 2 parts:
Preparing to study Functional Skills maths – will prepare you to study a Functional Skills qualification course. In this time your teacher will also assess you, to see if you are ready for a qualification course. At the end of part 1 you will either progress on to part 2 or you will stay on part 1 for a little longer.
You will be taught by a qualified teacher guiding you through the course.
Who is this course for?
For people who want to gain a first recognised qualification in Maths to allow them to progress to further study, education or career progression.
Entry Requirements to do this course:
You will be asked to undertake a BKSB test online to determine your level. Please also tells us on enquiry whether you have already gained a qualification in Maths.
How you will be assessed?
Your teacher will assess the Number, Measure, Shape, Space and Handling Data skills. You will be given opportunities to practice English as the maths problems will be contextualised on a variety of topics such as Food and Drink, Services, Travel. You will have an opportunity to practice mock papers and your teacher will examine you using an internally assessed paper allowing 25 minutes to solve the non-calculator paper and 65 minutes to solve the calculator paper.
How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?
For best results we recommend approximately 5 hours weekly.
What learners need to bring/supply
Writing implements (including a highlighter), a ruler, a calculator and a notebook.
Course dates: Wednesday 26th February 2025 to Wednesday 9th July 2025.
Please note there are no classes on 9th April, 16th April and 28th May 2025.

Online live streamed - Google Classroom
Venue Information
This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.
Further information
Except for the registration fee, this course is fully funded by The Education & Skills Funding Agency for adults who meet the following criteria:
- Aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2024.
- UK National and lived in the UK for the last 3 years or EEA National with settled/pre-settled status and lived in EEA for the last 3 years.
- Do not hold this Functional Skills qualification, GCSE C grade or Level 4 or you do hold this qualification but do not feel confident in your maths skills.
Learners should also be a Hertfordshire resident.
