What is this Course about?
This 5-week course is designed to help adult learners build confidence in using Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. Pivot Tables are powerful tools that make it easier to understand, summarise, and present information clearly. Through hands-on practice and real-world examples, you’ll learn how to use Pivot Tables to make sense of data, spot trends, and support decision-making. You’ll learn:
- What Pivot Tables Are and Why They Matter
- How to Create and Format Pivot Tables Step-by-Step
- Using Filters, Sorting, and Grouping to Explore Data
- Real-World Applications for Work and Everyday Life
- Tips for Presenting Data Clearly and Professionally
By the end of the course, you’ll feel more confident using Excel and be able to apply your skills in work, volunteering, or personal projects.

Entry Requirements to do this Course:
- A basic level of conversational and written English is needed to complete this course.
- Basic computer skills.
- Be comfortable with basic Excel functions such as formatting, sorting, filtering, and using formulas like SUM and AVERAGE.
How you will be assessed?
Question & Answer, Discussions, activities and observations. You will also be asked to complete Learner reflections.
How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?
It will be advised to use the skills learnt in the classes and practise on your own Excel documents and devices.
What learners need to bring/supply
Learners must have access to Microsoft Excel and a laptop or desktop with good Wi-Fi and a webcam (if online).
If the course is face -to-face the laptop will need to be brought to the venue.

Online live streamed - Google Classroom
Venue Information
This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.

Except for the registration fee, this course/workshop is fully funded by The Department for Education Adult Skills Fund, for adults who meet the following criteria:
- A Hertfordshire Resident
- Aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2025
- A UK national or anyone with a lawful immigration status in the UK. You will not be eligible if you are in the UK under any of the following conditions:
- On a student visa
- On a sponsorship visa
- On a visa or residence permit that restricts or prohibits study
- In the UK on holiday (with or without a visa)
