    What is this Course about?

    This course aims to develop basic speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for learners. It focuses on everyday communication, vocabulary building, and understanding simple spoken and written English. Learners will also begin to develop basic reading skills, such as recognising common words, understanding short texts, and following simple written information. Practical skills are used in real‑life contexts, such as shopping, hobbies, and daily interactions. The course also introduces the use of modal verbs to make polite requests and ask for permission.

    Who is this Course for?

    This course is designed for people whose first language is not English.

    Entry Requirements to do this Course:

    An initial assessment may be required to establish your working level.

    How you will be assessed?

    Learners will be assessed throughout the classes. There is no formal assessment or exam

    How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?

    It is advised to practise speaking and reading English when at home and outside of the classroom.

    What learners need to bring/supply

    A pen and a notebook.

    *Except for the registration fee, this course/workshop is fully funded by The Education & Skills Funding Agency for adults who meet the following criteria:

    • A Hertfordshire Resident
    • Aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2025
    • UK National and lived in the UK for the last 3 years or EEA National with settled/pre-settled status and lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years
