What is this Course about?
This course explores how digital technology is transforming the modern workplace and how you can develop the skills needed to succeed in today's digital world. Whether you are looking for work, looking to progress in your current role, or improving your confidence with technology, this course will help you build practical workplace skills.
You will learn about the importance of developing a professional personal brand, how to work with data using Microsoft Excel, and explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can support productivity and efficiency in the workplace.
The course covers three key areas:
- Personal Branding (Week 1) – Explore the importance of digital literacy in today's workplace and learn how to develop a positive professional identity. You will learn about how personal branding can support employment opportunities and career progression.
- Microsoft Excel (Weeks 2 and 3) – Build confidence using Microsoft Excel by learning the basics of spreadsheets. You will explore the Excel interface, identify key features of the ribbon and worksheet, enter and organise data, resize rows and columns, add and rename worksheets, and use simple formulas and functions. You will also have the opportunity to create charts and graphs to present information visually.
- AI in the Workplace (Weeks 4 and 5) – Explore the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in society and the workplace. Learn about the background and development of AI, discover how generative AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT work, and practise using them for workplace tasks such as generating ideas, creating content, and finding information. You will also consider the benefits, limitations, and responsible use of AI.
Who is this Course for?
This course is for people wanting to improve their digital skills to help them find work, to remain in employment or progress in their careers.
Entry Requirements to do this Course:
A basic level of conversational and written English is needed to complete this course. You must also have a basic level of computer skills
How you will be assessed?
Question & Answer, Discussions, and observations. You will also be asked to complete Learner reflections.
How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?
It will be advised to use the skills learnt in the classes and practise on your own Word documents and devices.
What learners need to bring/supply
Learners must have access to a laptop, desktop or tablet and able to access the internet.

Except for the registration fee, this course/workshop is fully funded by The Department for Education Adult Skills Fund, for adults who meet the following criteria:
- A Hertfordshire Resident
- Aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2026
- A UK national or anyone with a lawful immigration status in the UK. You will not be eligible if you are in the UK under any of the following conditions:
- On a student visa
- On a sponsorship visa
- On a visa or residence permit that restricts or prohibits study
- In the UK on holiday (with or without a visa)
