    Teacher: This workshop is being taught by Beverley.

    What is this workshop about?

    How to make hem alterations and patch repairs using a variety of hand sewing techniques to extend the life of your garments or add a personal touch.

    You will learn how to:

    • Choose the right size needles for your fabric.
    • Match the colour and type thread to your fabric.
    • Various stitches used to hem a garment (basic and blind hem).
    • Interpret maths terminology used in hem instructions.
    • Identify and measure your preferred finished length.
    • Calculate the length to shorten a hemline as required.
    • Patch holes (measure hole to create a patch)
    • Use basic and decorative patching methods to repair/reinforce worn areas of clothing.

     Who is this workshop for?

    Beginners to hand sewing.

    Entry Requirements to do this workshop:

    A conversational level of English will be required to complete this workshop.

    How you will be assessed?

    Observation, Project completion and Learner reflection.

    Attend Introduction to Add and Subtract or an extended S2S Beginner Sewing course.

    You will be asked to complete an enrolment form at the start of the course. Please bring along one form of ID to facilitate this.

    This workshop is fully funded by the Department of Education for Education for adults who meet the following criteria:

    • Aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2024.
    • A Hertfordshire resident.
    • A UK National and lived in the UK for the last 3 years or EEA National with settled/pre-settled status and lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years.
    • Do not hold a Maths GCSE qualification.
