What is this course about?
Coming up with a business idea and starting a business can seem overwhelming and complicated. There are so many things you must consider. This course will help you to explore different areas of self-employment including what makes a business idea successful, how to write a simple business plan, the basics of finances and budgeting, business ownership types and entrepreneurial skills.
Who is this course for?
For people who are considering starting up their own business but do not know where to start and for people who have just started out.
Entry Requirements to do this course:
A basic level of conversational and written English is required.
How you will be assessed?
Through questions and answers and the completion of weekly learner reflection forms
How much studying will I need to do outside of the lesson?
Minimal. You will need to complete a basic business plan template for which you can input speculative answers.
After this course you might like to… you may like to sign up to Functional Skills English or Maths to improve your numeracy or literacy. You may also wish to consider one of our digital skills or social media courses. If you are eligible you may want to sign up for the level 3 Leadership & Management qualification.
What learners need to bring/supply
Learners must have access to Microsoft office and laptop/desktop for online delivery and may find a pen and notepad useful.

Online live streamed - Google Classroom
Venue Information
This course/workshop is run as real-time online using Google Classroom. This means that instead of having to go to a classroom, the classroom comes to you! You are taught by a teacher and you will have classmates that you share ideas with. To take part you will need a tablet or laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone to enable you to interact. A few days before the start, your teacher will email you with instructions on how to join the class.

- A Hertfordshire Resident
- Aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2023
- UK National and lived in UK for last 3 years or EEA National with settled/pre-settled status and lived in the UK/EEA for last 3 years
