    About this event

This one-day workshop explores the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation that link local authority and education setting duties. Participants will gain an understanding of the definition of SEND and disability, how to work with settings and governing bodies. Participants will understand the graduated approach and levels of support in place within education settings and how these support children and young people with SEND. Participants will be supported to understand the process that an education setting may follow prior to submitting an Education, Health & Care (EHC) Needs Assessment Request, how the code of practice and legislation links in with their roles, and the 4 areas of need alongside relevant local data.

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

    • State the SEND Categories of Need
    • Identify Ordinarily Available and Quality First Teaching as well as SEND Support available in settings to support children and young people with SEND
    • Explain the terminology and identify key acronyms used within SEND
    • State the key elements of the Graduated Approach
    • Explain the difference between universal/ordinarily available and targeted SEND support
    • Explain the roles and responsibilities of the local authority and educational settings
