This SENCo training is designed to support new SENCos working in Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) early years settings to develop their knowledge, confidence and skills in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and /or Disabilities (SEND).
The session will explore the role and responsibilities of the SENCo within an Early Years setting, with a focus on inclusive practice, the Graduated Approach of Assess, Plan, Do and Review and working collaboratively with families and other professionals.
The objective of the session is to provide knowledge, tools and guidance for early years PVI practitioners to become the SENCO in their setting.
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Develop a clear understanding of the role and responsibilities of the PVI SENCo.
- Develop knowledge of key legislation including the SEND Code of Practice and relevant Hertfordshire early years processes.
- Understand how to implement the Graduated Approach of Assess, Plan, Do and Review.
- Develop confidence in identifying and responding to children’s additional needs.
- Explore how to use Ordinarily Available Provision to support inclusion and remove barriers to learning and participation.
- Consider effective partnership working with parents/carers and other professionals.
- Identify strategies to strengthen inclusive practice and provision within their setting.
- Have opportunities to reflect on current practice and identify next steps for their setting.
Please note: participants will need to attend both advertised sessions which will need to be booked separately. The second session is Thursday 5th November.
Participants will need to be using a device which has a working camera, microphone and access to the ‘chat’ option on MS Teams, please can delegates check their devices prior to joining the training. The delegates will need to ensure they join via the link provided in their confirmation 10 minutes before the session to ensure that they do not have any technical issues.
