The Physical Activity Clinical Champions (PACC) programme, facilitated by Moving Medicine and the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK, provides free clinician-to-clinician training for healthcare professionals nationwide, led by a team of physical activity champions. The training aims to improve healthcare professional’s knowledge, skills, and confidence, enabling them to incorporate physical activity into their clinical practice more effectively.
This training will have a specific focus on how physical activity can benefit the mental health and wellbeing of patients.
Learning Outcomes
Understand the evidence for physical activity
- Recognise the health benefits of physical activity for prevention and management of long-term conditions.
- Understand the risks of inactivity and the role of movement in improving health outcomes.
Increase knowledge, skills and confidence
- Develop confidence in discussing physical activity with patients, service users and communities.
- Gain practical skills to integrate physical activity advice into routine clinical contacts.
Deliver effective brief interventions
- Learn how to have person-centred conversations about physical activity.
- Use behaviour-change techniques and motivational approaches to support people to become more active.
Apply physical activity guidance
- Understand national physical activity recommendations and consensus statements.
- Be able to communicate key messages about activity safely and appropriately for different populations and conditions.
Support condition-specific care
- Recognise how physical activity can be used in the prevention and management of long-term health conditions.
- Apply condition-specific resources from the Moving Medicine programme.
Signpost and refer appropriately
- Understand local physical activity pathways and community resources.
- Know how to connect patients with suitable opportunities and support services.
Promote a preventative approach to healthcare
- Embed physical activity as a routine part of patient care and public health practice.
- Contribute to improved patient outcomes and reduced demand on healthcare services
Who is the course aimed at?
Although aimed at clinicians, this training is still suitable for non-clinical staff working within a clinical setting.
