Hertfordshire Health Improvement Service Stop Smoking Level 2 Refresher Training
About this event
This annual refresher training is a mandatory requirement for all advisors delivering stop smoking services in Hertfordshire. The session provides an essential update on the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to deliver a high-quality Stop Smoking Service with 1:1 support and advice. All GP Practice and Community Pharmacy advisors contracted to deliver stop smoking services must attend this training annually as part of best practice and to maintain their competencies.
Information about this training
This comprehensive refresher session covers current service specifications, new developments in smoking cessation support, and practical scenarios to enhance your delivery. The training includes updates on the Stop Smoking Service pathways, discussions on vaping and the Swap to Stop programme, varenicline guidance, service updates, new contract requirements, and available resources. The session is delivered by experienced Health Improvement Specialists and provides opportunities to discuss challenges and share best practice with fellow advisors. The content of this training may be adapted throughout the year in response to participant feedback and emerging updates to ensure it remains current, relevant, and aligned with service needs.”
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Understand and apply the current service specification requirements for delivering stop smoking support
- Provide evidence-based advice on vaping and the Swap to Stop programme
- Support clients with varenicline prescriptions where appropriate
- Navigate the 6-week and 12-week stop smoking pathways effectively
- Address common myths and challenges in smoking cessation
- Engage and support clients who experience lapses or difficulties
- Utilize PharmOutcomes effectively for service delivery and recording
- Identify and refer complex cases appropriately to HHIS
- Access and utilize HHIS resources to support service delivery
Who is the course aimed at?
This training is aimed at all advisors and/or Specialists currently delivering Level 2 Stop Smoking Services in GP Practices, Community Pharmacies across Hertfordshire and HHIS. This includes healthcare professionals, stop smoking advisors, and pharmacy staff who provide 1:1 behavioural support to clients attempting to quit smoking. Attendance is mandatory for all advisors delivering stop smoking appointments as part of their contracted service with Hertfordshire County Council Public Health.
Entry requirements to do this course
Participants must have previously completed the NCSCT Level 2 Stop Smoking training and HHIS Level 2 training. They must currently be registered with HHIS as a Level 2 Stop Smoking Advisor and be actively delivering stop smoking services in a GP Practice or Community Pharmacy setting in Hertfordshire.
