About this event
The Public Health team at Hertfordshire County Council, in partnership with the district and borough council Environmental Health and Housing departments, have developed a FREE training session to help you support individuals whose health could be affected by living in poor-quality housing.
Information about this training
This training session is designed to build learners’ knowledge, understanding, and awareness of what makes a home healthy and why it matters for physical and mental wellbeing.
Learning Outcomes
This course will cover the following outcomes:
- Define the characteristics of a healthy home and explain why they are important for wellbeing.
- Describe the impact that living in an unhealthy home can have on a person's health
- Understand which groups are more vulnerable to the effects of poor-quality housing on their health.
- Describe the roles, powers, and limitations of Environmental Health and Housing Departments in addressing housing-related health issues.
- Be able to apply appropriate prevention, management, and remediation strategies in practice
- Assess housing-related risks and utilise Hertfordshire’s referral pathway to support residents effectively.
- Understand the responsibilities of tenants, landlords, and agencies in both the social and private rental sectors and how these roles interact to maintain healthy housing conditions.

- Professionals who directly support and/or visit the homes of residents
- Professionals looking to upskill themselves on the relationship between housing quality and health
- Professionals involved in social or private sector housing
