    About this event

This workshop for parents and carers focuses on building practical skills to support neurodivergent children and young people. These young people often need extra help to develop important skills - such as communication, organisation, problem-solving and self-regulation - that their neurotypical peers may pick up naturally at home or school. The workshop's goal is to provide strategies to boost self-esteem, confidence, and well-being in neurodiverse young people supporting them to become more independent and happy.

    Objectives:

This workshop will give participants simple, practical tools to assess progress, provide tailored support and guidance and create and implement activities that build key life skills.

    Key Skill Areas:

The workshop focuses on helping young people build essential life skills, including:

    • Effective communication
    • Organisational skills
    • Problem solving abilities
    • Resilience and self-regulation
    • Social understanding and tolerance
    • Taking responsibility for their actions

These essential skills help young people become confident, resilient, and self-assured individuals who can communicate effectively, foster positive social relationships, and independently navigate everyday challenges.

The workshop also explains how adults can provide the right kind of support to encourage skill-building and long-term independence.

Presented by Susan Brooks - Educational and Child Psychologist C. Psychol, MSc, P.G.C.E. B Soc Sci (AFBPS).

Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow, British Psychological Society
