About this event
To mark Carers Rights Day 2024 we are hosting 2 information sessions, a morning session and an afternoon session.
A number of organisations will be present to answer your questions about Carers’ rights and other questions you may have about support for carers. These organisations include:
- Adult Care Services
- The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Team – covers Mental Capacity, Best Interest Reviews and Deputyship
- The Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust
- The Integrated Discharge teams from the Lister and Watford General Hospital
- The NHS Primary Care Team (General Practice and Pharmacies)
- POhWER the Advocacy Agency
- Public Health
- Carers services commissioners – Have Your Say on what should be in the next Carers Strategy
- Citizens Advice
- and more organisations are waiting to be confirmed!
Members of our own Admiral Nurse, Young Carers and Carers Support Advisor teams will also be present.
You can also relax in the lounge over coffee and cakes while chatting with other carers.
Carers Rights Day 2024 is important for raising the profile of carers and the theme this year is recognising your rights. These are:

- The right to Advocacy support in relation to a Carers Assessment
- The right to be consulted when the person you care for is discharged from hospital
- The right to ask your GP surgery to identify you as a carer
- The right (and choice) to request a free flu vaccination
- The right to Carers Allowance where eligible
- The right to unpaid Carer’s Leave

We aim to ensure that all carers in Hertfordshire are recognised and valued; are informed and supported in their caring role; have an opportunity for a life outside caring; can exercise a collective voice, and can be involved in consultation and planning to ensure high quality support services for themselves and the people they care for.
